Samsung SDI’s new 50 A ultrahigh-power cylindrical cell, honored with the 2025 InterBattery Award, leverages a tabless architecture for dramatically improved current flow and thermal management.

 

· 46 Series Scale-Up

Both Samsung SDI and LG Energy Solution are ramping mass production of “46-series” batteries (φ46 mm), which offer up to 6× the energy capacity of standard 21700 cells and \~90 % lower internal resistance via tabless electrode designs.

 

· Intrinsic Energy Density Gains

21700 cells deliver \~35 % more energy per volume than 18650 counterparts (21×70 mm vs. 18×65 mm), as standardized by IEC and documented by Battery University.

 

· Rapid-Charge & Safety Protocols

Advances in electrode formulations and electrolyte additives now permit safe fast charging at higher C-rates for both 18650and 21700 formats, with integrated safety testing covered at this year’s International Battery Seminar.
